Blog Tour and Review: Operation Prom Date by Cindi Madsen

Operation Prom Date (Tactics in Dating #1)
by Cindi Madsen
Publication Date: March 13, 2017

Publisher: Entangled Teen Crush

Kate ships tons of fictional couples, but IRL her OTP is her and Mick, the hot quarterback she’s crushed on since, like, forever. With only one semester left of senior year, it’s now or never if she wants to land him in time for prom. Since she’s flirtationally challenged, she enlists Cooper Callihan, the guy who turned popular seemingly overnight but who used to be a good friend.

Cooper lives and breathes rowing, but his partner just broke his wrist. When he remembers Kate’s good with a set of oars, he strikes a deal: help him train, and he’ll make sure her crush notices her. Only he didn’t know how addicting spending time with her would be. Or how the more successful the Operation is, the more jealousy he experiences.

The mission has been set. The troops have their marching orders. But what if the target is the wrong guy all along?

Disclaimer: This Entangled Teen Crush book contains stargazing, accidental swimming, and poker swindling. This kissing practice will melt your ereader…and give you a new couple to ship.

My review: 5 stars!
Loved this one! So quirky and sweet and fun! The chemistry between Cooper and Kate was PERFECT and I think fans of YA will tear through this as fast as I did. I can't wait to read more from Cindi Madsen- her writing style is so enjoyable.

Excerpt:
The wood creaked underneath us as Kate continued to swing her legs. Must be all that frantic energy buzzing just underneath the surface. Her head tipped to the sky. The moon waned gibbous and put out enough light to cast a pale yellow glow on Kate’s features. “Do you still know all the constellations, and, like, the history of all the stars?”
            “No.”
She whipped her head toward me. “Liar.”
“There are billions and billions of stars. You think I know the history of each one?”
“Is it true that most of the stars we see are dead? Because that’s depressing, and I like to think they’re still up there shining their little butts off.”
“Light travels at about 300,000 kilometers a second, which is crazy fast, but stars are so far away that even light from the closest stars takes years to get to us.”
She frowned at me. “So you’re saying they’re dead instead of letting me believe my happier version?”
            “I’m giving you facts.”
“Fine,” she said, her voice making it clear she was all putout about it. “I’ll allow it.”
“You’ll allow facts?” Before I got way off topic and fell into a lecture about how facts were facts, even if you didn’t want them to be, I shifted back to the subject at hand. “Don’t go getting all sad. I wasn’t finished. Stars have crazy long lifespans, and depending on size, we’re talking high millions to trillions of years. So, no, the answer to your question is that despite popular opinion—which is not the same as proven facts—it’s not true. Some of the stars we’re seeing might be dead, but most of them—to borrow your phrase—are still shining their little butts off.”
“I thought you didn’t know their history.”
Part of me felt like growling in exasperation, and the other part of me just wanted to throw my arms around her and hug her. All of my perfume sniffing must’ve killed a few brain cells.
“Glad we cleared that up.” She took a swig of her soda and then set the can down on the dock with a clank. “Now, tell me the constellations, because I know you know them. Do you still have that app?”
            “I have a better one.”
            “Well, whip it out, Galileo.”
“Okay, okay. But you might want to be careful about instructing guys to ‘whip it out.’ Just saying.”
She gasped and shoved me. I chuckled and righted myself, then set my empty soda can next

to hers. I opened my stargazer app and lined it up so the constellations would show on the screen.

Review: Becoming a Legend by Sarah Robinson

by Sarah Robinson

From the author of Saving a Legend (“A deep and moving story about family, acceptance, and love.”—Katy Evans) comes another smoldering MMA romance featuring the Kavanagh brothers, the chiseled alpha males whose real legacy is love.

Kane Kavanagh has always had one goal: being the best mixed martial arts fighter alive. With the MMA National Championships in Las Vegas fast approaching, the man they call “Killer” has no intention of letting anyone or anything get in his way. Somehow, though, a feisty opponent has slipped beneath his guard—and stolen his heart. Fiery and passionate, Nora Hannigan is harder to pin down than any rival Kane has faced in the ring. And she isn’t afraid to tell Kane that she wants nothing to do with him.

With her best friend about to marry into the Kavanagh family, Nora has been resisting Kane’s shameless attempts at flirting for months. But after their undeniable chemistry finally takes over, leading to the hottest night of Nora’s life, she’s running scared. There’s a lot about her life Kane doesn’t know, and she won’t be responsible for ending his career. Now Kane’s out to prove that he’s ready for a commitment by winning her heart—and he’s never lost a fight.

My review: 4 stars!
I'm always in for a sports romance, and MMA has recently been added to my favorites list along with football, baseball, and hockey. Becoming a Legend was told in dual POV- I always love getting into the heads of both the main characters because it makes the story so much more real to me. I loved Kane from the start- he was so confident and driven to succeed and I adored how he wanted to take care of Nora. Poor Nora had such a terrible time dealing with her mom, I felt terrible for what she had to deal with. I enjoyed them together so much- they were fun and flirty and so sweet. Although this is third in a series, it read fine as a standalone to me since the author was new to me. I do want to go back and read the first two books to try to fill in some gaps in my understanding of character backstories. It was an enjoyable book and I hope the author gives up a glimpse of Kane and Nora in future books in the story.

My review: 4 stars!
This was my first read from Mignon Mykel and I will definitely be adding her backlist to my TBR! She is an excellent author! I always enjoy a friends-to-lovers story, and this one was filled with so much emotion and heart, it made this sweet, quick read so enjoyable. Since I suffer from anxiety myself, I could relate to Grace and her struggles. Sawyer was just what she needed- you could see that their deep friendship was an important part of her healing and that they were better together.

Collette is the only other passenger not obsessed with material things and their mutual humility sparks an attraction neither of them anticipates.

As good fortune continues to favor Ryan, his relationship with Collette turns into a romance filled with affection and laughter, and his career begins to take off. Yet when his loyalty is tested, an old friendship turns sour.

Ryan chalks it up to greed and arrogance, and finds comfort in Collette’s experience with both. But an unthinkable event reveals that nothing is as simple as it seems. Envy and greed threaten to ruin everything.

My review: 5 Lottery-Winning Stars!
Last night I posted this on Instagram:

Just finished More than Money by Allison Michaels while Will had soccer and it was so perfect! The banter between the main characters reminded me of Heart Shaped Hack!

Guys, I LOVED this book so much! Ryan and Collette were fantastically well-written main characters! I just can't say enough about this book, and I was so excited to see that this is the start of a series. Might we get a book on Collette's brothers Neil and Les? I place my vote for Neil to be the next focus.

Release Day Review: Unraveled by A.S. Teague

Title: Unraveled
Series: Undisputed #2
(Standalone)
Author: A.S. Teague
Genre: Contemporary Sports Romance
Release Date: November 17, 2016

Blurb

I had it all––until I didn’t.

When my job, my livelihood, and my passion are suddenly snatched away from me, I’m left scrambling to keep my head above water. Desperate, I’m forced to walk into the last place I ever thought I’d go. Little did I know that I’d come face-to-face with the woman who would help me pick up the pieces of my unraveled life.

Rebecca Toler’s living the dream––or so I thought.

Beautiful, funny, and tough as nails, she answers to no one. In other words, she was born to be mine.
One problem—she hates me.

It’s time to take my life back, and I’m starting with her.
But, as I’ve learned over the years, sometimes the toughest fight of your life is outside the cage.

*Each book in the Undisputed series can be read as a complete standalone novel

My review: 5 Amazing Stars!
I had high hopes for Unraveled after giving A.S. Teague's debut novel, Undisputed, 5 stars. And I am so glad to say I was not disappointed! Teague again crafted an amazing, heartfelt novel that I adored.

This book falls into the enemies-to-lovers category, as Rebecca is sure she cannot stand Ryker due to past events in his life. Slowly, he enters into her life determined to change her opinion and it was fun to watch his wear her down bit by bit. Although Ryker could land on your book boyfriend list for many reasons, it was his devotion to his grandmother than won me over. Such a sweet relationship- I loved when she called him by his given name. So cute.

This is also a story of Ryker reclaiming his reputation and career, and I loved every minute of it. I enjoyed getting a glimpse into the life of the characters from Undisputed as well. I am so looking forward to Teague's next novel- I hope it's a continuation of this series!

Excerpt

For the next three hours I’m swamped answering calls—thankfully no more real estate agents—and helping anyone that comes in while trying to finalize the boys’ events for the next month. When that damn bell chimes for the hundredth time today, I plaster a forced smile on my face and glance up. When my eyes finally focus on the man walking through the door, the smile vanishes and my jaw falls open.

What the actual f***?

His head is high as he looks around, studying the room. After giving the gym a quick onceover, his gaze finally lands on where I’m seated behind the desk. Our eyes meet and my heart hammers, the pounding so loud I fear he can hear it from across the room. I tear my gaze away from his and scan his body, surprised at the physical reaction I’m having to him.

With a slight shake of my head, I slap my palms on the paper-covered wood, and shove out of my chair, causing it to shoot out at least ten feet behind me. “You have some nerve walking in here.”

He stops in his tracks and blinks at me before an easy smile crosses his face. “Rebecca Toler. Shoulda known I’d see you here.” He drawls as he continues walking toward me.

My pulse is pounding in my ears and my stomach is practicing its floor routine for the Olympics as I stare at the man in front of me. Taking a minute to appreciate his strong jaw line that’s covered in scruff, I notice that his hair is in desperate need of a trim as it falls across one eye.

F***, he’s sexy.

He always had been. Regardless how much it pains me to admit it. Though his looks weren’t why I wanted to full body hurl him from the building. Memories of our last interaction flood my mind, along with the hurt and anger I’d felt.

“How ya been, Reb?” he asks with a familiarity he doesn’t have.

His use of my nickname, a familiarity he doesn’t have––or deserve––causes me to snap childishly, “Who said you could call me that?”

He grins, but doesn’t reply.

F***, that grin is hot.

“What are you doing in Atlanta, Ryker?” I ask, attitude still thick in my voice.

He takes his time looking me over and my body betrays me by flushing at the attention. His eyes are appreciative of what they see, but strangely enough, it doesn’t feel like he’s ogling me.

He steps forward and shoves his hands in the pockets of his washed out jeans that hang low on his hips. “Well, I was in town and thought I’d stop in and say hello to my buddy Breccan. Seeing you is an unexpected bonus.” His lips tip up in a smile and my stomach flips again.

“Your buddy?” I hiss through clenched teeth while attempting not to let my gaze linger on his pants any longer. The thought of Ryker and Breccan ever being buddies would have been funny, if I wasn’t too shocked to laugh.

His gaze finally makes it back to mine and he nods once.

For a few moments we simply stare at each other, him smiling while I scowl.

The Bad Boy Bargain by Kendra C. Highley

by Kendra C. Highley
Published Date: November 14, 2016
My Rating: 5/5

Blurb:
Baseball player Kyle Sawyer has many labels: bad boy, delinquent, ladies' man, fearless outfielder... Only one of them is actually true. But then sweet ballet dancer Faith Gladwell asks him to help wreck her reputation, and everything goes sideways.

Faith knows a thing or two about love, and what she had with her cheating jerk of an ex wasn't it. When he starts spreading rumors about her being an Ice Queen, Faith decides it's time to let a little bad into her life.

Lucky for her, Kyle Sawyer--dark, dangerous, totally swoonworthy Kyle Sawyer--is landscaping her backyard over Spring Break. Shirtless. And if she can convince him to play along, " dating" Kyle will silence the rumors.

But Faith's plan threatens to expose Sawyer's biggest secret of all...and that's a risk he's not willing to take.

Disclaimer: This book contains drop-the-book-and-fan-yourself kisses...and touches. Fall in love with a bad boy at your own risk.

My review: 5 Stars!
I often chose a book by the cover, and the cover what was first drew me to this book. So cute! Although I read a lot of adult romance, sometimes I need a sweet, fluffy YA novel to cleanse my palate. I adore sports romances, and I also find the fake romance trope enjoyable, and The Bad Boy Bargain had both and so much more.

Once I dove into the book, I found myself neglecting my long to-do list, which is a sign of a great book! I finished this in one afternoon and loved every little bit of it. Both Kyle and Faith were extremely likable, and the flow of the story was perfect. Although Amazon labels it as appropriate for 12+ and it is actually very tame romance-wise, I'd still recommend it for 16+. I'm definitely looking forward to reading more from Kendra Highley.

Purchase: Amazon | Audible | iTunes

Underdog Luke "Single" Singleton is yearning to make a comeback. After getting hit in the neck with a pitch—an injury that nearly cost him his life—he has one last chance to play for his hometown team, the Stockton Beavers. But his mom has Alzheimer's, and he's all she has to depend on. How can he pursue his career, much less someone special?

Personal care aide Roberta Bennett is done dating baseball players. Having had her share of heartbreak, she heads to Stockton hoping for a fresh start. But after she finds Luke’s mom outside, lost, and alone, she can’t refuse when he hires her on the spot. Unbeknownst to Luke, Roberta is all too familiar with the violent tendencies of the pitcher who hit him.

Now that they’re living under the same roof, the last thing either of them is looking for is a relationship. But it’s not long before they find themselves drawn to each other. And right when Luke is thinking about finally making a change to his single status, a secret from Roberta's past emerges with the power to tear them apart.

My review: 4 stars!
I had actually purchased this book and read it earlier this year, but was so excited to recieve an audiobook to review because I LOVE audiobooks! I pretty much in the middle of one at all times, and since I hate quiet, I listen while exercising, doing housework, and driving.

I enjoyed the storyline of Single so much because baseball is my absolute favorite sport. This was my first Collette West book to read, so Roberta was a new character to me, and I absolutely adored her and how she came back from her sad past. Luke was perfect- a man who has fierce loyalty to his family and loves the game of baseball- what else do you need in a man?

The narration speed was a bit slow for me, so I used the trick a friend told me about as her solution for slower-pace narrators: I change the speed to 1.25 and it magically makes it more conversational and enjoyable. I actually do this with a lot of audiobooks and it works great.

One thing to note: Single is a "clean" romance- although there are some romance scenes, there is nothing explicit in this book. That didn't take away from the romance for me at all- West still writes a great love story!

Release Day Review: See Through Heart by Amie Knight

Title: See Through Heart
Author: Amie Knight
Genre: New Adult
Release Date: November 7, 2016

Blurb

Ainsley came into my life in a flurry of vibrant colors, lighting my world up when all seemed lost.

It wasn’t our quiet nights by the creek or stolen kisses surrounded by a sea of cotton that saved me.

It was her.

She was my comfort when life threw one ugly tragedy after another at me.

Until she dealt me the greatest blow.

Now, abandonment, betrayal, and death darken every corner of my life. Anger and hurt burn bright where love and trust once lived.

But, now, she’s back. Sure, she’s changed, but I see through it—straight to her heart.

ADD TO GOODREADS

My review: 5 stars!
I had no idea this book would affect me the way that it did! Amie Knight is quite a talented writer, and it is hard to believe this is her debut novel! It's definitely on my Top Books of 2016 list! I've become stingy with my 5 star ratings but I am so honored to give on to See Through Heart.

I love books that take us from childhood to adulthood- I really like reading about the characters as they mature and grow. And Ainsley and Adrian had so much to deal with- more than anyone should have. Amie dealt so well with these difficult issues, and after reading the Author's Note at the end and learning about her personal connection to this story, I realized how much of this story must have come straight from Amie's own heart. She wrote with passion, and created a heart-felt, beautiful story that just demands to be read.
