Would You Tell Me About

your clothes-cleaning/drying machines??????

Unbelievably, both our washer and dryer have gone kaput within the same week. I've been being all college-student and dragging my laundry baskets/potions over to a friend's house. In fact, I made 5 trips over there yesterday!

So I need to know, do you have HE models? Do you have the stands? We are leaning towards getting a set, but sans stands.... is that a bad idea?

HALP!

I have no advice on the washer/dryer but I must say I'm a little jealous :) Not that you wanted to spend your money on new appliances - but they sure are pretty (and I bet you can do massive loads of laundry in them). If only the dryer also folded the laundry...

We have HE one's from Sears and they do clean better, but I haven't noticed any energy savings. I would defintely get the stands. I'm 5'4" and without the stands they would be annoying low.

RUN-don't walk to get a HE washer and dryer. We bought both when we built our new house and LOVE LOVE LOVE them!!! (I have to confess-I had the best time watching them wash and dry through the front window-sad but true:) Totally entertaining!) We didn't get the stand for them and it's been fine. You have to bend over to get stuff out but it's not a big deal at all. It's not as if you're bending over to pick something up off the floor. We didn't get them because both appliances are in front of a window and the stand would have made then above the window ledge.

You will love them!!

Love the blog by the way!!!

After a crazy amount of research, we bought the LG HE front loaders with no stands... the controls are on the back and with the stands, there's no way I could reach them!

We don't have stands with ours and I kind of like it. It allows space on top just below cabinets where I can keep individual bins for each household members clothes. I haven't had any major "back" issues from bending over. The stands are kind of pricey.

I have an HE washer/dryer but it's a top loader. The washer just doesnt have the middle part. I heard mixed reviews about the front loaders. and I thought having to buy stands was silly and they are an awkward height if you don't buy them. I love the HE top loader we have. It is a Kenmore.

We have a front loader in the place we rent. It's the type that could stack on top of each other or be separate...it would be awesome if the ceiling was high enough to stack them b/c of all the floor space available! That's a great benefit of front loaders.

Since ours aren't stacked, they sit on the floor. They need a base. Absolutely, they need a base to raise them up. You know I'm short, and I'm uncomfortable with them. I'm squatting all the time.

Cleaning: I'm not sure that they get our clothes cleaner. Just the other day, I ran a shirt through that had hair on it from a haircut (shaken out, of course), and it still had hair on it when Robert got it out of the drawer. I had washed it on a long cycle with an extra rinse. The good news is the washer fits more clothes, but I'm not sure that it cleans any better....maybe even worse.....

We purchased an LG set in December. My husband did a ton of research...and LG was the winner. I love, love, love them. I never thought a new washer & dryer could make me so happy.
We didn't get the stands because I am short and wanted a counter top over them that I could use. It made my laundry room so much more functional. I am glad we didn't get the stands.

Thanks for all the replies!

We ended up getting Samsung HE models from Sears.... very good price!

And the stands were a moot point- our cabinets weren't high enough to accomodate them. I am glad to hear that some of you don't have stands either.

I would get a really good quality top loader. I have a high end front loader and do not like it. The clothes tangle too much and it smells yucky and gets mouly easily. There are some really good top load washers that are cheaper and much better.

Glad you splured and got a set. You won't be sorry. We live on the farm with yucky, gunky, greasy, stuff on our clothes that is too un-mentionable to even step in but it gets on our clothes. I love the heavy-duty setting...it'll get out anything!

I would recommend running some ammonia thru it once in awhile to keep it clean.

We have the GE ones - and without stands (they make them too tall!) Love love love them - the short drying time is amazing! Without the stands, you can use the tops to fold clothes - and since my washer/dryer are on the 2nd level of my house, the safety pan the washer sits in would not allow the drawer in a stand to be opened anyways. Good luck! (love this and your nail blog!)
