Just When I Think Things Are Going Well

Last night the Wild Child smashed Slim's little girl's birthday cake.... before the birthday girl had even seen the cake! I was devastated. I was trying to watch her, but I was busy closing all the pizza boxes so she wouldn't mess with the pizza and didn't see her as she pushed down on the top of the box and smashed it into the cake and it picked up all the icing.

I snatched her up and apologized to Slim, and said I had to take her home as punishment. The hubs stayed at the party with The Politician. Getting home was hard- she went into a giant fit complete with hyperventilate-type breathing and I of course was crying myself.

I am just so sad..... why is this so hard?????? Why can't we go to a birthday party and have fun and not have to spend every second watching her so she doesn't do something destructive???????????????

Thanks for listening.

Sasha - no words of advice since I have my own version of the WC. Just wanted to let you know that you aren't alone and ALL parents have gone through something like that at some point in time. My theory is, we have kids so that we remember how to cry! Big hugs doll!

oh sweeite, I am so sorry. I can't imagine how hard that has to be on you. Stay strong. You are both in my prayers.

Sasha, I have been in your situation--my son--have had to carry him out of places kicking and screaming bloody murder. Have to somehow get him into the car and then sit there with him for 40 minutes while he tantrums. It SUCKS! I wish i had some advice for you, ours finally got better when we really worked majorly on the sensory issues (which I know you are working on). It isn't fair and it is much harder on you as a family to have a kid like this--while they are wonderful in many ways, there is no other way around it--they are HARD to parent. Big hugs and if you ever need to talk feel free to email me :-)

You are such an amazing mother, and WC is so lucky to have you. I wish I was there to give you a big hug! Sending one from all the way down here...

I wanted to stop by and offer a big ole HUG! I S-2-G that I got that cake put back together just fine and A did not ask one single question about it. In fact, nobody at the party said a word about it. Please just put it out of your mind because it was not a major catastrophe and had no effect on the deliciousness factor. I know you're frustrated but hang in there momma. Now then, no more dwelling on the "cake incident". You go have yourself a great day. Love ya!

Ok, Slim, as long as you S-2-G. I am SO SORRY for the drama and you having to use your cake-fixing skillz on such short notice.... I love ya!

Oh Sasha - so many hugs to you! Let those tears of frustration fly....and later console yourself with one of those delicious Mike's drinks. You've MORE than earned it girlfriend!

Been there, done that. I get total anxiety at birthday parties. Angry Toddler always wants to open the kid's presents too.

Long time reader, first time commenter. No real words of advice, but that just sucks. Hang in there...

I have read your blog for a long time, but rarely comment (I think I am terrible at expressing myself through the written word). I have read your posts regarding your struggles with WC. Just know you are a great Mom, and you are doing absolutely the best job for your kids. We all struggle in different ways, and your friends and those that matter to you most know this.

Keep up the good work - you are WC's Mom for a reason :)

sasha, been there done that. i have a 2 year old wild child of my own. last thing he did was go to 'art class' and tear down and ruin all the other kids artwork. we love, we cry, we wonder why? but they are the best.

I wonder what possessed her to do that? Dang! I bet you were mortified, poor thing!
