New Audiobook Release Review: Golden Touch by Sarina Bowen

Golden Touch (Giltmaker, #2)Golden Touch by Sarina Bowen
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I really enjoyed Good as Gold, the first book in author Sarina Bowen's Giltmaker series, so I was super excited to dive into Golden Touch. I adore a little suspense with my romance so Livia and Nash's story was fantastic and done so well. I've always been fascinated by the brewery process, so I love that this series is set in the Giltmaker family brewery because I've actually learned a lot as I read. I was able to listen to an early audio copy, and the narration by Tim Paige and Samantha Brentmoor was top-notch. Although it was nice to catch up with characters from the first book, Golden Touch can absolutely be read as a standalone, although I do think you'll want to go back and read the first book after devouring this one.

Enemies turn to lovers, but can they trust each other as they chase the same prize? A sexy romantic comedy adventure from #1 NYT Bestseller Lauren Blakely…

I live my life by three simple rules. Don’t mix business with pleasure. Always work solo. And family comes first.

But when I head to the tropics for a quick job and meet a fiery woman who makes my pulse roar, I can’t resist bending the first rule for her.

Trouble is, after we spend a scorching night together on the beach, I discover she’s my new enemy. The quick-witted and clever beauty is on a treasure hunt for the same damn prize – beating me in a race to find millions in stolen diamonds.

See you later, sexy stranger.

Too bad I keep bumping into my gorgeous rival all over this tropical paradise as we chase clues.

Maybe it’s better to partner up. But, the more time we spend together sneaking into nightclubs and art galleries, the harder it is to keep my hands off her. And soon, I'm not just sleeping with my very irresistible enemy.

I’m starting to give her my heart.

That breaks my biggest rule of all. Don’t ever fall in love. Because it always screws you over.

*Note: A Real Good Bad Thing will be entirely new to most of you! Some of you might have read an older series of mine called The Jewel series (now off sale). That two-book storyline serves as the source material for this new story, which has been changed to 1st person, and turned into a standalone, with all new dialogue, motivations, setting and so on! But if there's a touch of the familiar to some of you that's why!

My review: 5 stars!

I own the audiobooks for The Jewel series and love them and was excited to hear author Lauren Blakely planned to re-vamped and update the story. Although some parts of the story did seem familiar, it read like a totally new book and I absolutely loved it! Blakely is masterful at witty flirty dialog, and Jake and Ruby had such great banter and heat! I always enjoy a little suspense with my romance, and the treasure hunt storyline was *chef's kiss*! I loved the clues and twists and turns and really enjoyed this fast-paced exciting story.

Can you keep a secret?

I grew up sick.

Let me clarify.

I grew up believing that real love stories include a martyr or demand great sacrifice to be worthy.

Because of that, I believed it, because I made myself believe it, and I bred the most masochistic of romantic hearts, which resulted in my illness.

When I lived this story, my own twisted fairy tale, it was unbeknownst to me at the time because I was young and naïve. I gave into temptation and fed the beating beast, which grew thirstier with every slash, every strike, every blow.

Triple Falls wasn’t at all what it seemed, nor were the men that swept me under their wing. But in order to keep them, I had to be in on their secrets.

Secrets that cost us everything to keep.

That’s the novelty of fiction versus reality. You can’t re-live your own love story, because by the time you’ve realized you’re living it, it’s over. At least that was the case for me and the men I trusted my foolish heart to.

Looking back, I’m convinced I willed my story into existence due to my illness.

And all were punished.⁣⁣

WWY - RB banner.jpg

Written With You, the emotional and highly anticipated conclusion to The Regret Duet from USA Today bestselling author Aly Martinez, is available now!

WW You FOR WEB.jpg
Written With You (The Regret Duet #2)
by Aly Martinez
Release Date: June 13, 2019

When I was fifteen, a single bullet changed my life. I spent the next decade trying to outrun the devastation of my past, building an empire that would shield me from whatever life could throw at me.

But all the money in the world couldn’t help me when I found a screaming newborn abandoned on my doorstep.

I’d never wanted to be a father. Passing the sludge that ran through my veins down to an innocent child seemed like a tragedy. But there she was—pink cheeks, red hair, and mine.

Somehow, against all logic, that little girl became the best thing that ever happened to me. It was impossible to stay lost in the past when I was the only one who could protect her future.

Which is exactly why, when her mother came back four years later, I was ready for battle.

If only I could stop myself from falling in love with her during the war.

My review: 5 stars!
I'm not usually a cliffhanger fan, but somehow Aly Martinez creates duets (with cliffys of course) that slay me and I'm simply addicted! I don't mind (in fact I LOVE) being on the edge of my seat while reading her stories. There's always a twist or two I don't usually see coming and I love that OMG moment every time. After reading Written With Regret, I was so excited to finish the story with Written With You. The Regret Duet is completely unique and this story was incredible. Go into this one blind and ready for a ride. Written With You and Written With Regret and both brilliant- if you enjoy romantic suspense, the duet is a must read!

Every little girl dreams of the fairytale. The one where the white knight rushes in to save her from the clutches of evil. They fall in love, have babies, and live happily ever after.

By that definition, my life should have been a fairytale too.

When I was eight years old, Caven Hunt saved me from the worst kind of evil to walk the Earth. It didn’t matter that I was a kid. I fell in love with him all the same.

But that was where my fairytale ended.

Years later, a one-night stand during the darkest time imaginable gave us a little girl. It was nothing compared to the pitch black that consumed me when I was forced to leave her with Caven for good.

At the end of every fairytale, the happily-ever-after is the one thing that remains consistent. It wasn’t going to be mine, but there hadn’t been a night that passed where I hadn’t prayed that it would be hers.

I owed Caven my life.
However, I owed that innocent child more.
And that included ripping the heart from my chest and facing her father again.

Review: The Retrieval Duet by Aly Martinez

The Retrieval Duet by Aly Martinez
Book 1: Retrieval
Book 2: Transfer

Book 1: Retrieval
One story. Two couples.

I proposed on our first date.
She laughed and told me I was insane. Less than a day later, she said yes.
It was a whirlwind, but we were happy…
Until we got greedy and wanted a family.

It was a life I couldn’t give her, not for lack of trying. Fertility just wasn’t on our side. We sought out doctors and treatments. Spent money we didn’t have. Lied to our families. Smiled for our friends. Put on a brave face for a world that didn’t understand.
Finally, we were successful…
Until we were forced to bury our son.

We were left broken, battered, and destroyed.
They say love is in the details, but it was the details that ruined us.

This is the story of how I took back what had always been mine.
The retrieval of my wife and our family.

Book 2: Transfer
One story. Two couples.

I fell in love with a man who didn’t exist.

What started out as romance ended in hell.
His words turned to razor blades.
His kisses converted to fists.
His embrace became my cage.
His body transformed into a weapon, stealing parts of me until ultimately….
I broke.

I hated him.
My sole job in life became to protect our daughter.

I wasn’t sure I’d ever escape the prison he’d skillfully crafted from my fears.
Until the day our savior arrived.

This is the story of how I escaped the man who thought he owned me.
The transfer of my life and my family.

My review: 5 stars!
This duet was AMAZING! Aly Martinez is the queen of angst and romantic suspense and The Retrieval Duet did not disappoint. Each book somewhat focuses on a different couple, but their stories are woven together and connected. Although dark, the payoff is worth it- the emotions that Martinez captures are both heart-breaking and love-affirming. The first book ends in quite the cliffhanger, but this is to be expected knowing it's written as a duet. This duet was a one of my favorites of 2016 for sure!
