New Release Review: The Final Play by Amie Knight

The Final Play (Summerville Sports #3)
by Amie Knight
Release Date: February 3, 2022

The Final Play isn’t always the end. Sometimes, it’s the beginning of something far more beautiful.

As a professional linebacker, I lived and breathed football.

The only thing I loved as much as the game was my twin brother, Max, who kept me almost as busy cleaning up his messes.

The most recent of which landed him behind bars.

So, it shouldn’t have surprised me when a beautiful woman showed up on my doorstep, claiming to be pregnant with Max’s baby.

Glory was unexpected, infuriating, and flat-out crazy most of the time.

But no matter how hard I tried to deny it, that tiny spitfire slammed into my boring life with the strength of a Category 5 hurricane, blowing through my defenses until she’d carved her name in my heart—permanently.

I feared we would never work. She was a single mom, my brother’s ex, and one more chance for me to fail yet another person I loved.

My review: 4.5 stars

Author Amie Knight handled the set up of the book (heroine is pregnant with the hero's brother's baby) so well! I knew from the emotional prologue that The Final Play was going to tug on my heartstrings, but at the end I had such a big smile on my face with how everything came together so fantastically. I loved Mason and Glory separately as well as together and I enjoyed catching up with characters from the previous Summerville Sports books. The Final Play reads well as a standalone, but I do recommend the first two books as well.

New Release Review: Hard Luck by Sara Ney

Release Date: March 25

SOME GIRLS HAVE ALL THE LUCK

Unfortunately, I am not one of those girls. Not when I lost my apartment because my roommate let the lease lapse while I was traveling for work. Not when my brothers keep finding love and my mother keeps reminding me I’m still single. Not after a one-night stand during my older brother’s wedding has me waking up pregnant.

I have to keep it a secret—from him, and my family. I sure can’t tell my brother his teammate, Mateo Jose Espinoza, is the man I slept with. Confident, funny, Mateo…

A GUY CAN’T CATCH A BREAK

Just when I thought I’d found the girl of my dreams, she ghosts me. Worse? Her brother refuses to give me her number, and my calls to her office go straight to voicemail. I thought I was a catch; professional athlete, charming, raised with six sisters—I’m a guy who knows his way to a woman’s heart! What reason could she possibly have for avoiding me?

When I finally catch up to True Wallace, I’m going to get the answer.

My review: 4 stars

I tore through Hard Luck and was so excited to get to know the Wallace sister True and was so intrigued with Mateo and loved that he turned out to be such an awesome guy. I found him so charming and loved all his sisters and their involvement in his life. I squealed when neighbor Molly appeared at the beginning and I absolutely loved her presence in this book! More Molly please! Hard Luck was over too fast for me- I am so hoping there is another book planned in the series so we can get more of True and Mateo's HEA.

New Release Review: Southern Gentleman by Jessica Peterson

Southern Gentleman
Charleston Heat #3
by Jessica Peterson
Release Date: July 25, 2019

I know two things when I meet my new boss, Greyson Parker Montgomery III.
One, he’s an egomaniac.
And two, we’re going to get naked.

Something I didn’t know? That I’d end up pregnant.

No one is more surprised by our off-the-charts chemistry than me. I’m a free spirit with a passion for design and a taste for the bohemian. Greyson is a cocky venture capitalist who’s as pretentious as his sharply cut power suits.

He owns half of Charleston, and has the other half at his beck and call. But the only place he owns me is in bed...or in the backseat of his car, boneless and begging for mercy.

We argue over contracts and costs all day long. Behind closed doors, however, we engage in a different kind of business. The kind that has me surrendering to his unique brand of dominance.

Our no-strings attached arrangement suits me just fine. Until I wake up one morning with what I think is a wicked hangover.

Only it’s not a hangover.

I thought Greyson was a typical “greed is good” grump. But when he demands to be involved in the life we accidentally created, I start to see a different side of him. One that’s more gentleman than jerk.

Am I crazy to think we could be a family together? Or is making me fall for him just another one of his power plays?

My review: 5 stars!
I adore the Charleston Heat series, but had no idea just now much I'd come to love Greyson! He and Julia together were magic and she absolutely brought out his best side. Their enemies to lovers story is pretty fun, and most fun of all is that author Jessica Peterson is herself expecting at the time of this release- I can't help but wonder if some of her own pregnancy cravings and annoyances made it into Julia's story. Everything in the book felt so authentic, so real. Southern Gentleman can be read as a standalone, but you'll certainly want to go back and meet the characters from the first two books, who we get to catch up with in this book. I highly recommend the whole series!

Author Bio
Jessica Peterson began reading romance to escape the decidedly unromantic awkwardness of her teenage years. Having found solace in the likes of Mr. Darcy, Jamie Fraser (OMG love the gingers!), and Edward Cullen, it wasn’t long before she began creating tall, dark and handsome heroes of her own.

She lives in Charlotte, North Carolina with her husband, Mr. Peterson, and her smelly Goldendoodle Martha Bean. She is the author of the super sexy STUDY ABROAD and FLINGS WITH KINGS series. Check her out at www.jessicapeterson.com

New Release Review: Fixing Us by Miranda Elaine

Fixing Us - RB banner.jpg

Fixing Us, an all-new romantic standalone from Miranda Elaine is available now!

fixing us-ebook.jpg

Gabriel Starr is the love of my life, even if he breaks my heart time and time again.

Like a fool, I keep going back, so I’ve made a promise to myself—one final night and then I’m done.

One night of passion.
No pressure. Most importantly, no future.

One month later, a positive pregnancy test tells me different.

Our only option is to raise this baby as friends, but how can we make it work when we can’t even keep our hands off each other?

We finally have the chance to be the family we never imagined we could be.
But first we need to focus on Fixing Us.

My review: 4 stars
Fixing Us is the third book in Miranda Elaine's Fixing Series, but all three books can standalone. A different couple is featured in each book, and I was excited to get Leigh's story after meeting her in the first two books. It's a sweet small town second chance story, and Leigh and Gabe have fantastic, can't-stay-away-from-each-other chemistry. I also love the friendship of the girls in the series- their antics and banter are hilarious and they are definitely girls I would chose to be friends with. A great addition to the series!
