I have been a fan of author Jillian Dodd’s That Boy series for years and it’s been fun to experience the next generation! Ainsley and Damon’s romance is so very sweet and I just love how much he adores her and knew from the instant he met her that she was his forever. This book takes us into Damon’s first college football season while Ainsley finished her last college semester and I loved how they made it work long-distance. Looking forward to the next book to see how their love story ends!
I was so excited to dive back into the That Boy world and loved to hear that The Crush was the start of a new trio of books in the series focusing on Damon, now heading to college, and his summer crush Ainsley. Author Jillian Dodd has treated us to such great stories for the original characters and it’s been so fun to get to know the next generation. I loved the book and cannot wait for the next book in the trio to see what happens next!
What happens to childhood promises when you grow up?
Growing up, Devaney Diamond and Chase Mackenzie promised to go to college together. But it’s been two years since the summer that changed everything between them, and their friendship hasn’t recovered.
Now, Dani is faced with all the challenges of her freshman year of college—navigating rush week, making new friends, and living on her own—which is both exhilarating and intimidating. In high school, Dani was homecoming queen and head cheerleader. She should be able to handle the pressure, but college has been more overwhelming than she expected.
Chase, on the other hand, is living the dream. It’s his senior year of high school, his football team is hoping to go undefeated, and he’s being heavily recruited.
When Dani returns home for a weekend, she realizes why college feels so overwhelming—she doesn’t have Chase to share it with. In hopes of salvaging their friendship, she repeats an old tradition—sneaking over to his room with pizza after his game. But instead of fixing their friendship, they end up sleeping together.
Chase is thrilled that Dani is back in his life, but being friends with benefits when feelings are involved is more complicated than Chase imagined.
Will Chase and Dani work through their feelings for one another, or will their childhood promise be shattered when Chase announces what college he will commit to?
My review: 5 stars!
I absolutely could not wait for That Promise after the ending of That Summer and I was not disappointed! That Promise was just what I hoped it would be and left me with a big smile on my face. Jillian Dodd writes such authentic relationships and this took me right back to the end of high school and beginning of college- and Rush Week! Getting to see Chase and Dani grow and mature in their relationship and friendship was fantastic. I cannot wait for the next book- That Forever.
Devaney Diamond's summer is shaping up to be the best one ever. Her longtime crush is finally interested.
Just when their relationship is getting started, she finds out she's leaving on a three-week vacation. She's not thrilled about being gone for that long, but she is looking forward to spending time doing nothing but getting a killer tan and hanging out with her lifelong best friend, Chase.
Chase is cute and sweet. Smart and responsible. And he's always there when she needs him. If it wasn't for their age difference, things might be different between them.
But when Chase returns home from football camp with new muscles and a new attitude, Devaney realizes something ... Chase Mackenzie is hot.
Will this be the summer Devaney and Chase fall in love, or will it be the summer when everything falls apart?

My review: 5 stars! So glad Jillian Dodd gave us another book in the That Boy series! I have loved this series since I first discovered it when I was just getting back into reading a few years ago. Each book has been a joy to read, and I adored teenage Chase and Devaney. Their deep friendship was so sweet. The Diamond and Mackenzie families are so fun to spend time with!
Meet Jillian
Jillian Dodd is the USA Today best-selling author of more than thirty novels.
She writes fun romances with characters her readers fall in love with--from the boy next door in the That Boy trilogy to the daughter of a famous actress in The Keatyn Chronicles to a spy who might save the world in the Spy Girl series.
She adores writing big fat happily ever afters, wears a lot of pink, buys too many shoes, loves to travel, and is distracted by anything covered in glitter.
