The dog I really didn't want is now the dog I can't imagine not having! She's my little velcro-dog... always underfoot, following me around. So very excited to see me, which is nice because the other two small things in my house are always complaining about the lack of snack choices in our pantry.

So I'm thinking about getting her one of these PetHub Smartphone ID Tags- doesn't that look genius? Amazon has them for $12.50 plus $1.50 shipping and they come in a few different colors, so you don't have to put a pink tag on Butch if that's not his signature color.

Discrepancy

As I place an order for Methyl B12, which doesn't contain cyanide like the B12 I took for over a year (!!!), I find myself craving a Twix. Damn it, it's just down the hall and I even found a crisp dollar bill in my pocket when I got dressed this morning, perfect and ready for our picky candy machine. Kismet? Wasn't that dollar meant to purchase a Twix?

My quest to lose 30 pounds felt like it was going well when I celebrated a 4.5 pound weight loss this morning, but that Twix is my nemesis. There is a discrepancy between my desire to lose weight and my ability to not purchase a Twix.

Discrepancy. That's been the word of the day lately. "P exhibits severe ability/achievement discrepancies in the areas of basic reading, reading fluency, and written expression and is eligible for services for the disability Developmental Delays established Specific Learning Disability."

I was prepared for the IEP meeting when I we received that info. Oh, I had printed out extra copies of suggested accommodations from our eye doctor, brought in examples of his classwork to show areas of concern, and felt ready for anything thrown at me.

But I don't think I was prepared for that sentence. Not at all. It was so official, so final, so foreboding. I wanted to dash out of that conference room, get him from his class, and take him home and take him in my arms and tell him I'd always protect him and never let anyone hurt him. Or embarrass him. Or make fun of him.

Because those are my fears, so they must be his too.

Last night I attended an event with a friend at her church, and oh my gosh I should have taken notes, but my arms felt too heavy to make the effort to get a pen out of my purse. This is probably all sorts of wrong, but the speaker said something to the effect of, "We can teach our kids one of two things. First, the love of the Lord and his grace and protection of us. Or second, to take on our fears."

But I remember being a kid. I remember being taunted for wearing big Sally Jessie glasses when I had an eye infection and having bangs that winged out and walking extremely fast by nature. Freshman year of high school sucked. I remember being left out of things, arriving for plans with a group of friends to discover that everyone had eaten take-out dinner without me, me having been left out of that part of the plans on purpose (I'm not a good dinner companion, I suppose.). Junior year of high school sucked. I remember crying over a Triple Cheese Melt from Arby's with my dad after a silly boy broke my heart. Senior year of high school sucked.

And school was easy for me. So how do I prepare my son for what lies ahead, knowing that there may be even different challenges for him than there were for me? But more importantly, how do I keep from projecting my fears on to him? I think that's that biggest question and what I'm struggling with today.

He's not me. That's what I keep repeating.

Today my entire face is Too Faced- one of my absolute favorite brands. I was super sleepy this morning and needed to do my makeup without even having to think about it, so I thought the easiest way to do that was to stick with one brand. Super easy!

Foundation: Amazing Face Powder Foundation in Warm Vanilla. $32 at Sephora. Gives great coverage in just a swipe. Today I used the sponge that comes in the compact, but sometimes I use a flat top brush for even more coverage.

Setting powder: Primed and Poreless Powder. $28 at Sephora. This controls oil so well for me- I won't even have to re-powder my nose today!

Blush: Brightening Blush in La Vie En Rose- Sephora is not carrying this, but you can find it for $18 at TooFaced.com. This is very pigmented, and you just need a small amount and I use a skunk brush to get a light application.

Eye shadow primer: Shadow Insurance in Candlelight. $18 at Sephora. I absolutely will not wear eye shadow without Too Faced primer... and Candlelight is my favorite. If you are wearing neutral shades, this shimmery cream color is the perfect base.

Eye shadow: Eye Shadow Duo in Erotica & Silk Teddy. $17 at Sephora. Note that these two shades are also in the Natural Eye Palette, which is a steal at $36 since it comes with a total of 9 shades. The duo is nice for travel since it's smaller, but I love my 9 shade palette as well.

Eye liner: Liquif-Eye used to pick up Erotica and use as a coordinating liner. $18 at Sephora. Such a great concept- Liquif-Eye allows you to use any eye shadow as a long-lasting liner.

Lips: Mood Swing Lip Gloss in Pink Berry. Not carried by Sephora, but it's $17 at TooFaced.com. Love love love these glosses, and Pink Berry is my favorite.

Soup Help Please

We REALLY have great neighbors and we have so many fun things throughout the year- the Block Party, the Poker Tourney (see my trophy above), and two of the guys have a fabulous Dirty Santa Christmas party every year. We've had chili cook-offs, a salsa cook-off, and the Sashas hosted a Mardi Gras party last year.

This Saturday is our yearly neighborhood "cook-off" and this year the theme is "soup". I have a few recipes I found online, but if you have some suggestions, I'm all ears! I'd love to bring home another title!

Currently in the lead is Buffalo Wing Soup, courtesy of A Year of Slow Cooking. I'm also considering her Pizza Soup recipe as well as Cheeseburger Soup.

Leave me some suggestions in the comments please!

Update: Working on My Fitness

You know when you hear about something new several times? And you think, hmmm.... am I supposed to do something with this info? Is the universe telling me something?

Last week, my IRL friend Megan posted:

But in the meantime, I've reacquainted myself with my old friend Jillian- four nights out of the past five!. I have long been a lover of her 30 Day Shred DVD.

The 30 Day Shred follows a 3, 2, 1 formula (3 minutes of strength, 2 minutes of cardio, 1 minute of abs, repeated 3 times) and it a fabulous quick workout. It clocks in at about 23 minutes including the warm-up (I must admit I am a cool-down skipper).

But I've got to tell you that I am loving her newer 3, 2, 1 formula DVD- Ripped in 30- even more.

Here's why:

Ripped in 30 has 4 workouts on it, compared to 3 on 30 Day Shred.

The workout clocks in at closer to 30 minutes, rather than 23. Nice to add a few minutes, but still stay a manageable length.

There are 3 different moves per strength circuit as opposed to just 2. The 30 Day Shred had you doing the same strength move for 1 minute (rough!) and Ripped in 30 does each move for 30 seconds.

So my plan is to continue to do Jillian while I wait for ChaLEAN to arrive. I'm also planning to run the Dallas Rock 'n Roll Half in March, which I did last year and enjoyed. I really need to concentrate on my fitness in 2012, and although I'm not making it an official resolution, I'm setting it as a priority.

If you have a first gen iPad, you must get one of these Otterbox cases! They are on sale for $13.XX and I got mine yesterday and it's so wonderful! It even has a stand on the back which I think will be so nice.

I have been in need of a case for quite some time- my son had already dropped mine once, on concrete, but luckily it just got a hairline crack along the bottom of the screen that doesn't hamper it's working. This case covers that crack beautifully and I feel like there is absolutely no chance in any more accidents like that because this puppy is structured.

If you are not into pink like moi, here's a black and white one that just a few cents more.

I don't take enough pictures! Life is just so busy these days that I actually forget I always have a camera with me- my cell. I am going to set a goal of participating in Project 365 this year to re-train myself to capture memories more. Poor WC doesn't even have a baby book and she turned 6 years old today. I guess I was just planning on handing her a flash drive some day and saying "Here you go!".

So I've decided 2012 is the year- the year of memory making and recording for the Sashas.

New to Project 365? Angry Julie just posted a great Project 365 tutorial, and she's definitely qualified since she participated in 2011.

Look who arrived at the Sasha house yesterday! Christopher Pop-In-Kins!

Yes, I know it was December 23. That's how I roll, very last-minute.

I have never been that excited about the Elf on the Shelf..... I think he's a little creepy.

But when I saw Christopher last week, I had to have him! How cute is he?

He comes with a great book, which we read when he arrived last night. I told the kids I had put in a request for an elf earlier in December, but they were backed up and ours had just arrived, and thank goodness he did, because he would have to head back to the North Pole sometime on the 24th.

And at 3 am I woke up and realized I hadn't moved him. Phew! So now he resides on top of the mantle. And hopefully sometime today I will remember to have him make the trip back to chat with Santa.

Soap Box Time

I get so emotional when I watch things about vision therapy, the program that P just competed 28 weeks of.

It is so frustrating that as parents we have to do our own research and find resources ourselves.

The fact that we can't trust opthamologists to make a treatment recommendation for us is unbelievable.

If we had "waited" as it was suggested to us by our opthamologist, where would our son be today? Father behind, that's where.

And I worry for those that can't afford vision therapy. We spent almost $4000 out of pocket, and it was so worth it, but what about families that don't have access to funds like that?

Such a shame that insurance companies don't recognize that vision therapy works.

To end on a positive note, though, P has made fantastic strides since we began vision therapy in May. Although I'm not sure that reading will ever be easy for him, his tracking and focusing have improved so much. He also has had the best attitude through this all- I am so proud of him for that. He understands that everything we are doing, and all the hard work he is having to do, is towards the goal of making reading and school easier for him.

As a supplement to vision therapy, he began Interactive Metronome therapy a few weeks ago with our OT and are already seeing progress there as well.

Since we suspect P has a visual processing problem in the background, IM will hopefully help him in many areas. Our IEP meeting is on Monday, and I'm anxious to figure out what the school will be able to do to help support his education.

Cars 2 DVD is down to $15. I wasn't that impressed when we saw this one in the theatre, but it's grown on me now that we own it and have watched it a few more times.

Lego Pirate Code Game for $7.70. P loves these Lego games and I think they make great gifts for the 8 and above crowd.

Math Slam is down to $19- I paid $21 for it last week and I think P will love it. Speed for reading letter and numbers and processing them is a vision issue we are working on, and this will be perfect for that.

Yahtzee Hands Down Card Game is down to $3.50. I haven't played this, but it looks fun. We are trying to spend more time playing games and such rather than have the TV on.

Scrabble Slam Card Game is also down to $3.50. As I have said before, my brain is unable to play these types of games.... scrabble, words with friends.... I don't know why, but I just can't get them to work for me. A local radio show has a game called Tri-Bond, where they give three words and you have to come up with the other word they all have in common, and even if I spent all day thinking about it, I could NEVER come up with the answer. I had a roommate that could answer in about 3 seconds and I always felt like part of my brain was missing since I can never answer them. :-)

Here's another Lego game- Robo Champ for just $6. This one is recommended for 6 and up, rather than 8, so I got this one hoping that P and WC can both play this one on family game night.

Last night the Mr. and I watched one of my favorite Christmas movies, Love Actually. Such a great movie! And this morning I headed to iTunes (and Amazon as well) ready to download Billy Mack's "Christmas is All Around", and I can't seem to find it available as a single song! iTunes doesn't have it at all, and it's only available on the full album on Amazon. Any other ideas on where I can purchase the song? I pretend to be technologicaly savvy, but we all know I'm not.

Recs: Games for 8 Year Old Boys

A friend asked for some game recommendations for an 8 year old boy, and since that's just what P is, I thought I'd do a post on some games he likes to play.

P loves Rush Hour- we have the junior version, which is aimed toward ages 6-8, and the regular version is for 8 and up. He is still enjoying the junior version.

Battleship is always a favorite at our house.

Card games are great- Uno is definitely a fave.

I picked up Snap Circuits Jr for him this Christmas for $15.71 . Looks like something he will enjoy.

I also ordered Blokus when I saw it at $16. I have heard great things about this game.

Yesterday Simon Flash was just $10, and it looked age-appropriate, so I ordered that one too.

And although we don't have it, I have heard great things about Qwirkle.

Fancy Nancy: Splendiferous Christmas

Nancy is a family favorite, and this book doesn't disappoint. This book is heavy on family and traditions, and the illustrations are delightful. It always fun to look closely at the pictures and see what we can discover.

Merry Christmas, Curious George

I have loved Curious George as long as I can remember, and this book is a favorite in my collection. George is as adorable as ever.

Mater Saves Christmas

Such a cute story- Santa is a car of course, and his reindeer cars use special fuel that helps them fly. Chick Hicks is stealing the fuel, in hopes of using it to finally beat Lightning in race. Mater saves the day!

Such a holiday classic- and Dr. Seuss stories are such fun to read.

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever

Of all our Christmas books, this is my favorite. The story is funny, easy to read, and touching. Some of the references are dated, but my kids still enjoy it. We started it last night and are reading a chapter each night before bed.

I have the first Zumba Wii game and it is fabulous! I work up a major sweat and get to use those dance muscles I haven't used in 20 years or so! And from the comments on Amazon, Zumba 2 has many enhancements and improvements, so I'm really hoping to get this.

You knew there would be some makeup on my list, right? I am a collector of Benefit's boxed blusher/powders, and when I saw there was a new one in the I Glam... Therefore I Am set $36 at Sephora), it called my name.

12 Days and Counting

My friend Amanda pointed out to me last Friday that White Rock was about 2 weeks away... which meant I only had about 2 weeks to finish training for my 3rd half marathon! Cue shock and horror. Hard to believe it's so close.

My biggest training problem has been that we haven't had a treadmill. It died during the summer and we just hadn't had the time to replace it. It was a great Reebok model that we bought about 9 years ago and lasted both of us through many many Couch to 5K runs.

But treadmills don't seem to be made like the used to be, and we had a hard time finding a model wtih a big enough HP for our liking.

After much research (seriously, the Mr. ought to go to work for Consumer Reports, he is SO good at researching products), he bought the Sole F80.

Trolling Pinterest (seriously, it's an addiction), I saw an interval program and thought I've give it a try for some treadmill runs. After following the pin, I decided to give the beginner one a try first! I have done the one above a few times and really like it- I don't use an incline though because I am prone to shin splints. Last night I actually did it twice and felt like I got a great 40 minute workout in. And for me, it was a bit of a speed workout- my legs are short and running at 6.5 is like someone is chasing me!

I did 9.5 miles on Saturday, and plan on doing 11 this weekend, so hopefully I'll be ready and make it through. I got some new insoles at a local running store and I really think they are going to help my arch problems and foot pain. Yay for local businesses!

Turns out the frame is bent on the family van, so they are totaling it out.... which means I am in the market for some new booster seats.

This is a serious safety issue if the kid leans forward and the belt does not retract. Luckily the belt guides from Parkway SG model can be retrofitted to it (they fit perfect).

So it's not just us! Luckily, I am getting enough from insurance to go ahead and get two new seats, along with replacement belt guides from the Britax website ($9.99 each).

Do you know about the InfantSEE program? Oh, how I wish I did when my children were babies! This program provides a cost-free vision exam for babies before their first birthday.

InfantSEE®, a public health program, managed by Optometry Cares® - The AOA Foundation, is designed to ensure that eye and vision care becomes an integral part of infant wellness care to improve a child's quality of life. Under this program, AOA optometrists provide a comprehensive eye and vision assessments for infants within the first year of life regardless of a family's income or access to insurance coverage.

Some readers know about P's vision impairment- but if you don't, he was diagnosed with Exotropia at the beginning of this year- at age 7. It's been a difficult year filled with a eye muscle surgery on both eyes, weekly vision therapy for the past 21 weeks, and twice-a-week hour-long multi-sensory reading tutoring. We've come a long way, but still have farther to go, and we aren't sure what the final outcome will be. Will he always be visually impaired? How will this affect his ability to learn in school, and what about normal life thing like driving?

I struggle everyday wondering, "What if we had caught it earlier?" Honestly, I don't know. He had all his regular well-child visits, and nothing was ever noticed during those exams. I even took him for a visual exam with a local opthamologist before K and it wasn't caught then either.

This paragraph from the InfantSEE website echoed my thoughts: Former President Jimmy Carter and First Lady Rosalynn Carter have pledged their support for the program for a very important, personal reason: They have two grandchildren with amblyopia. For one grandchild, the condition went undetected until he was well into grade school, when classroom difficulties made the condition apparent. Had a program like InfantSEE® been in place then, he may have been treated with far less effort and would have found academic success sooner.

So my PSA to you, and everyone you know, is PLEASE PLEASE take your baby for an InfantSEE exam with an optometrist. They are better trained to locate these types of problems. If you are local and want a recommendation, we have a wonderful pediatric optometrist who is trained in pediatric optometry and vision therapy and rehab.

If you missed the opportunity for the free exam, I still encourage you to have your child examined by an InfantSEE doctor. You don't understand how much your child's vision affects their learning experience until you go through something like we have.

Currently, I am OBSESSED with Orville Redenbacher's Naturals Popcorn in Salt and Cracked Pepper flavor. OMG, it's the best thing I have EVER tasted. It comes in mini bags, which is so so so nice, because I'd definitely eat a full-sized bag all by myself if that was the only size it came in.

I went searcing for a pic to show you, and it turns out Amazon has a darn good deal on it- if you choose Subscribe and Save (don't forget to cancel the subscription later!) you can get 12 boxes with 4 mini bags in each box for only $24.33. I think the price at Wal-Mart is about $2.50 per box, plus tax, so that's a nice savings. Off to order!

Today's question is "What is your favorite book?".

Oh, how I love to read! I used to stay up late, devouring books until I couldn't keep my eyes open. During my years of insomnia, there were always several books on my nightstand waiting to be picked up at 3 am, and my trips to the bookstore couldn't even keep up the pace.

Then I had kids.

Alas, in 2003 my free time allocated for pleasure reading disappeared. If I did find time to read, it's usually a parenting topic.....

But if I am answering trivia questions about myself, I list Sophie Kinsella as my favorite author. Most people know her for the Shopaholic series, which is fabulous and I love dearly, although please know the movie was not at all representative of the book.

But the best Kinsella books are actually the non-Becky ones... Yes, Becky can be a tad self-absorbed and unaware, but Kinsella's other heroines are real life, this-could-really-happen gals. My two favorites are Can You Keep a Secret? and The Undomestic Goddess. If you haven't read them, you simply must.

Sasha Asks: Your Favorite TV Show?

Today's question is "What is your favorite television show?".

Don't suppose you can guess what my favorite TV show is, can you?

Why, of course, it's Friends! Friends began airing in the Fall of 1994 while I was in college. I have the fondest memories of gathering around the TV with my sorority sisters and watching the newest epi before getting ready to go out on Thursday night. It's also one show that the husband and I agree is absolutely perfect comedy- for a few years right after we got married, reruns were airing at 10 pm weeknights, so we always watched Friends right before we went to sleep.

I have to admit to you that I'm a little bit Monica. Oh, who am I kidding, I'm totally Monica. Totally. I even have a phone pen.

As you can see above, I have all 10 seasons on DVD (randomly, Season 4 does not have a 4 on the spine). Note that Season 1 is not in the pic, because it's in our bedroom since I was watching it while running on the 'mill when I took this shot. I watched the entire series, in order, several times while doing the Couch to 5K plan. It was such a fabulous distraction and really kept me going on the exercise plan.

Almost Famous

My love of classic rock led me to become obsessed with rock biographies while in high school. I devoured Hammer of the Gods: The Led Zeppelin Saga and I'm with the Band: Confessions of a Groupie by Pamela Des Barres and imagined myself living the tales. Although shy and ever-conscious of authority, I longed to be a bit more daring and have that exciting life that revolved around rock and roll.

So when the movie Almost Famous starring Kate Hudson came out 2001, I was so excited! Another chance to have a glimpse of that life that sounded so very intoxicating and thrilling to me. I wasn't disappointed at all- I found it to be enthralling and I couldn't take my eyes away. Genius, pure genius.

About a year ago, I started a series about Getting To Know You Better. And of course I never finished it! I'm just going to start again and pretend time didn't go by! We're going to re-name it "Sasha Asks" and I'd love for you to join in!

I was lucky enough to grow up in a home with parents who LOVED music and exposed me to so much classic rock. My mom and I would go to the store on days when a new *tape* would come out (Doobie Brothers anyone? remember this was the mid-to-late 70s) and I always loved singing along in the car.

Some of my faves are Cream, Led Zeppelin (duh!), The Eagles, Jimi Hendrix, Bad Company, Janis Joplin, KISS, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Velvet Underground, and of course Eric Clapton. (and this list could go on and on....)

When the hubby and I decided to get married, I knew that I wanted "Wonderful Tonight" to be the song we danced to. There's just something I have always loved about that song and now it holds an even sweeter memory for me.

Plus "Beth" by KISS wouldn't have fit the situation very well....

Usually, the brush that comes with your product is just not adequate and you won't get good application using those low-quality brushes. And you'll notice that most high-quality products don't even come with brushes.....

So I have a few suggestions if you are up for re-vamping or adding to your makeup brush arsenal. Today I am suggesting some brushes from e.l.f..... note that I am not compensated in any way for my recommendations- these are just personal opinions based on products I have purchased myself.

1. Foundation brush. It's probably a sensory thing, but I cannot apply foundation with my fingers... I get all shivery just thinking about it. I use a foundation brush that I wash each morning with foam soap, then I use it damp to apply my liquid foundation. I suggest e.l.f.'s Mineral Foundation Brush ($5).

2. Powder brush. After I apply my foundation, I do a dusting of e.l.f.'s High Definition Powder with a fluffy brush like e.l.f.'s Studio Complexion Brush ($3).

3. Bronzer/Blush brush. I love to use stipple brushes to apply my bronzer and blush, especially if they are very pigmented. A stipple brush gives a nice sheer application that can be built in layers. I suggest getting 2 of e.l.f.'s Studio Stipple Brushes ($3) and using one just for bronzer, and one just for blush.

4. Eye shadow brushes. I use mainly use two brushes- one to apply my all-over base color (typically a shimmery champagne color) and a crease brush to apply my darker color in my crease. As I picked WC up off the ground at school pickup yesterday and carried her to the car, like a limp (but kicking) noodle, I felt eyes on me.

As we carried WC to the van, kicking and screaming, last Saturday night, after she repeatedly hurt another child, I felt eyes on me.

As we left a friend's house earlier than planned the weekend before, after she was mean to their daughter, I felt eyes on me.

I Can't Do It

I was pondering the premise of SJP's newest movie, I Don't Know How She Does It, and the answer is really easy.

She doesn't. Or at least, I don't.

I don't do it at. As a mom with a lot on her plate, I just can't.

I have friendships that have been neglected, baby books that haven't been filled, 25 pounds that haven't been lost, baseboards that haven't been re-stained after we re-floored the whole house, flower beds that haven't been tended to, pictures that haven't been uploaded or printed, books that haven't been read..... the list goes on and on.

What's the answer? How do I find that balance I am so desperately looking for? I'm not sure, but I'm mulling it over and hope to sort it out soon.

Since our evening will be a bit crazy, I plan on tossing some chicken in the crock pot along with some Archer Farms Hawaiian Style BBQ Sauce when we get home. It just needs to cook on high for 2-3 hours, and that will be just in time for me to grab a quick bit before heading to the school.

In other news, P had his first two fall baseball games last night, and they went great! I am SO glad he has found a sport he enjoys, and bonus! It just so happens to be my favorite sport too.

Favorite Things Party- You MUST Have One!

Thanks to my obsession with Pinterest, I have ideas for fun stuff just spilling out of my head!

I found a fabulous idea for a party that I just had to follow through with. My Sunday school class was scheduling a Girls Night, so I suggested we do a Favorite Things Party, and offered to host at my house last Friday Night. It was such a hit! We had a total of 15 people there, and I asked everyone to bring an appetizer or dessert to share, and also bring whatever they'd like to drink.

Here's the original instructions from the Pin:

Each person brings their favorite thing (anything you like.. your favorite lip gloss, favorite kitchen tool, favorite gift wrapping supply, a gift card for your favorite frozen yogurt, etc.). It can't cost more than $6, and each person brings five of the same thing. When you arrive at the party, you write your name on five slips of paper and throw them in a big bowl. The bowl is passed around, and each person takes five names (making sure you don't pick your own.. or two of the same name). One at a time each person introduces their favorite thing and then reads the five names they picked from the bowl, passing out their gift to those five guests. After everyone at the party has presented their favorite thing, each person should end up with five gifts to take home. It's always interesting to see what people choose, and some guests have started to bring a notepad and pen to jot down what people love.

We chose to modify a bit- we went with three $10 gifts.

I bet you can wager a guess as to what I picked up for my three gifts..... nail polish! I got Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat because it seems like people don't know about it, and it's life changing! (well, as life changing as a beauty product can be!)

And here's what I received: a market basket from Kirkland's to use when I go shopping (rather than use Target or Wal-Mart's nasty little baskets, a silicon spoon/spatula from Williams Sonoma, and the book Heaven is for Real.

We had a wonderful time and there was a lot of "Ohhh..... I've never seen that before!" and "I have to get that!". Have you hosted a party like this before?

I am about mid-way through a crocheted blanket for P, and of course Wal-mart no longer carries the color I've been using, Red Heart French Country. I just found it online for around $8-9, but I just can't pay that when I've only been paying $3 or so to Sam. We just got a Joann Fabric store, so maybe I should check there?

And being a good Chi O, it's imperative that I have the skull and crossbones nail polish strips for Halloween this year! And the ghosts are so cute too! I've checked my Wags and CVS, but they are so slow to put new things out, so I'm not all that hopefully. Maybe I'll check Ulta?

After The Hottest Summer in History (really), a cool front is coming in this weekend, pushing our high temps down in the low 90s, and do you see that 88????? Yay!!!!!!

I am so ready for cool weather! I'm already painting my nails fall colors, just for good measure. Sort of like a rain dance. Right now I'm wearing Orly Fowl Play, shown in the pic above, and it's gorg.

Since I plan on losing all this extra weight doing the Jumping Jack Challenge, I'm busy planning all the cool things I want to wear this fall.

Jumping Jack Challenge

I know, I know. I have a terrible track record for completing "programs". But I am totally going to finish this one! It's fun!

Obv I didn't get started on August 1, so I am just marking off the days as I do them one by one. I started Sunday and did Day 2 yesterday. I can totally feel it in my arms and it was quite a cardio boost.

Note that you don't need to do 300 in a row.... you can spread them out during the day. I have been doing 50 at a time.

First Day of School

Recently, people have been asking me if WC was ready for Kindergarten... I've been replying that yes, I think she is, but we're not sure if Kindergarten is ready for WC!

Really, today went fabulously! I had the opportunity to meet with her new teacher on Monday morning and was reassured that the school would in fact choose the right placement for our girl.

And after getting the chance to meet with P's teacher on Tuesday night, I know he is in the right place as well. Strangely, his teacher had eye issues and surgery similar to P's! When I told him that he was amazed.... he said, "She'll understand what I see!"

So we're off to a fab start! I'm enjoying see all my local friends post their first day pics today as well... these kids are growing up so fast.

We are working on training Miss Bella, who currently runs the Sasha house. One thing I have been doing totally wrong is letting her walk me. I have been giving her the full length of the leash. After reading the above link, I now know I need to be the boss and keep her at my side on a short leash, as shown above.

Excuse: I have never had a dog before! Any other tips I need to know about dogs?

I am super-excited about the Glee movie that comes out today and have plans to go see if next week. Let me know if you see it today and what you think!

I am looking forward to a glass of Barefoot Moscato after a long day today. Yes, I know it's only 11 am, I just already know it is going to be a long wine-worthy day!

I am loving Big Brother this season, but can't get over how amazingly stupid it was for Dani and Kalia to keep Rachel in the house last night. And Brendan is back? Cue yucky couple stuff. I am going to miss Lawan.... he was adorb!

And.... I'm on a classic female country kick. How about a little Charly McClain? Barbara Mandrell? Maybe some Sylvia? Ah, yes!

New Facial Product Find

Today Shasta Ann blogged about some of her favorite products from mark, and that reminded me that I've been meaning to tell you all week about my new favorite product, also from mark.

Over the last year, I've been having trouble with breakouts on my chin and I've tried just about everything! I received a sample of mark's Break Out Plan Anti-Acne Gel Lotion with a recent order and I was immediately hooked. It was light, soaked in immediately, and left no oily residue. And it cured my breakout problem in just a few days.

With apple and cinnamon extracts, this lightweight gel formula helps reduce the appearance of redness associated with acne and keeps pores clean and clear. Salicylic acid (1.5%), a proven acne fighter

At $18 for 1.7 ounces, it's not exactly drugstore price, but to me it's well worth it. As an aside, I typically prefer a pump applicator for facial products (to keep the germies out of the rest of the product), but even though I was disappointed that this was a jar, I ordered it anyway.

And to my surprise..... it's actually a pump after all! You simply depress the plastic disk on top of the jar, and just the right amount of product comes out a small hole in the middle. If you at all have a breakout problem, I urge you to give this a try- it worked for me!

Back from vacay!

I am back from our beach vacay in Alabama, which, it turns out, in addition to Oklahoma, is one of the other 2 states in the US with 3.2 beer laws.... wonder what the third state is?

And even though I slathered my face with sunscreen, I came back with terrible hyperpigmentation, like the face on the left! It's the bane of my existence. Today I chose a 30 minute sweat and shape routine, since I am away from my hand weights. I was able to set my workout to an album from my itunes library (The Band Perry is what I listened to today), and the app gives you audio guidance during each exercise to keep you on track and motivated. You can also access a video demo for each drill. Overall, this simply rocks. I had just told the Mr. that I wish I had some DVDs with me so I could get a workout in since it's raining today. Then I remembered the Nike Training Club and gave it a go- and I LOVE it!

I truly enjoy putting on makeup! It's just so fun to go through my products and decide what to use each day. I have discovered that I am reaching for the same four items recently during this hot hot (a bazillion days in a row over 100) weather. Liquid foundation just feels icky to me right now, so I've been all about the powder foundation, and loving it.

Growing up, I absolutely hated Domino's Pizza. It tasted very cardboard-y to me, and I just plain didn't like it.

But have you had their new and improved "Hand Tossed" crust? It's delightful! It's a garlic-seasoned crust with a rich, buttery taste. We absolutely love it. The kids are all about Alfredo sauce pizzas right now, and I happen to like them too. My other fave is BBQ Chicken.

I just placed an order for two large pizzas and an order of cinnamon sticks for.... wait for it.... $14!

I found two fabulous codes on www.retailmenot.com that I used. Here's the breakdown:

Last week they did hip-hop lessons all week at P's summer program, and yesterday morning was the "Flash Mob" show. Totally cute and he did a great job, and obv had fun, per the look on his face above. What a ham.

In other news, I was considering growing out my bangs a bit, and wearing them swooped to the side, but I have a cow lick I normally tame down with the blow dryer. Without the cowlick taming, I suddenly resemble Larry Birkhead, which I don't think is a good thing........
