LOTD#34 and a Baby Gorilla

2 lipsticks in 1 BlastFlipstick! Flip your look from day to night, soft to bright, with BlastFlipstick's double-ended lipstick duos. With a creamy shade on one side and a shimmer shade on the other, it's two wearable, blendable, lipcolors in one!

This is another one of the Flipsticks I received from BzzAgent in December when I joined a campaign for CoverGirl.  These retail for around $8.50.

I went through a period in the mid-90s where all I wore was brown lipstick. Revlon Cocoa Bean was my staple for years. Shudder......

But today I think I can say that I am officially over it. It just doesn't seem to suit me anymore!

Baby Gorilla!

On Friday the kids were out of school, so we drove up to the zoo and had a fabulous time. Towards the end of the day we stopped at the gorilla exhibit and look what we found! A baby! It was seriously the cutest thing I have ever seen!

His name is Leom and he was born on Valentine's Day. We'll be going back up to the zoo next week with WC's grade field trip, and I think the gorilla exhibit may have to be our first stop to check on this little guy.

LOTD #33 and Baseball

It’s a pampering balm fused with a lightweight lipstain in an adorable chubby crayon. Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain gives softer, smoother lips with a perfect flush of color that lasts hour after hour. The gel formula comes in 12 vibrant shades that match any look or mood.

Smitten is the lippie I keep in my purse to grab and slap on mid-day. Definitely one of my faves!

We had such a fun weekend! My company purchased tickets for the employees and their families to attend a RedHawks game on Saturday night and we had a great time. The weather was wonderful! (And of course it will be down to 38 again later this week. Come on Spring!)

I was so excited to find this shade in my Party Pack for the Redbook + L'Oreal Paris Happy Hour House Party I am hosting this Sunday. This is a color that I was seriously about to go buy, and then it appeared at my door! I really LOVE it.

The other shade in the Party Pack will be a prize for a party guest. Cannot wait! I am going to get some of my favorite mani products to give away as well. Probably one set of all my the products in use in my nail routine, as well as a few extras of my HG topcoat, NYC Grand Central Station.

LOTD #31 and Books

A stunning new innovation in lip color, OCC Lip Tar combines the longevity of a lipstick, with the ease of application of a gloss. Goes on slick and moist, and dries down to a satin finish. Ultra-saturated in color, Lip Tar contains an unprecedented amount of pigment - a little goes a very, very long way! An intense yet featherweight layer of color that never looks or feels heavy. Meant to be mixed, Lip Tar comes in concise array of colors for a limitless selection of shades made by you! A simple, elegant formula that contains Hemp Oil, Peppermint Oil and Vitamin E, OCC Lip Tar feels as good on the lips as it looks!

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar in Pageant (discontinued)

When I went to IMATS in April of 2012, I knew I wanted to find the OCC booth because I just had to try a Lip Tar. At that time they did not come with a lip brush, but it looks like the newer shades do. You seriously just need the tiniest bead of product to get full coverage. It's a pretty fun product. Not sure that I'll buy more, but I like the two I have.

Books!

Yesterday must have been Book Release Day, because I got a box of four books from Amazon on the day they came out. (LOVE that feature- order ahead and they deliver on release day!)

For WC, I got Fancy Nancy's Fantastic Phonics, which is a darling little set of 12 books. We read the first three last night and each book is somewhat based on one of the longer books that have been released. They sentences are shorter and easier and perfect for WC right now.

I also got her Fancy Nancy: Fanciest Doll in the Universe, which is the new bigger hardback that just came out. Had to keep our collection going!

We also got the new paperback, Fancy Nancy: Puppy Party.

And for me, Sophie Kinsella's newest, Wedding Night: A Novel. Cannot wait to read it!

LOTD #30 and a House Party

Found this in my stash, and sadly, it's going in the trash. It seems to have "turned" and no longer has the moisture it used to have. It appears that I have had it for some time so it's no big heartache. This color appears to be discontinued.

House Party Fun!

I recently got word that I was selected as a host for the Redbook + L'Oreal Paris Happy Hour House Party. This Party Pack is AMAZING and you'll know why I say that when you see the pic of everything they sent- including makeup and nail polish!!!!

Each of my guests will receive a generous sample of L'Oreal Miracle Blue, a sample pack of the Age Perfect BB cream and a sample pack of Total Repair 5 shampoo and conditioner. Everyone will also get a free subscription to Redbook, as well as a gift subscription for a friend.

We'll do drawings for the cosmetic bag, some lip gloss and eye shadow, and a copy of The Paris Wife.

We'll do manis with the 11 bottles of nail polish they sent and have snacks and drinks. So fun! Can't wait until Sunday!

LOTD #29 and New Furniture!

Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter in Sorbet
This is one of four new shades from a collection they are calling "Pacific Coast". The other shades of new lip butters are Pink Lemonade, Juicy Papaya, and Wild Watermelon. I picked Sorbet up at Target for $6 on Saturday.
On of my favorite things about the Lip Butter is that the plastic cap is a representation of the shade- so easy to grab which shade you are looking for.

Furniture!

We have been in our house about 12 1/2 years and it has been in need of some love. Saturday the kids were playing with some friends, so we took the opportunity to go to a furniture store we'd been eyeing and pick out a few things to spruce up the place. I am so happy with what we found and can't wait to get organized!

We found this piece for our kitchen. I am planning on getting some baskets to use to get things off our counter and also plan to stash the kids shoes down below.

This piece is in our dining room and is going to be used to store (hide) all our school work stuff- notebooks, rules, pencils, crayons etc. We do homework at the dining room table so it will be so nice to have all of our supplies handy right there.

This is for our entryway and look at all the drawers I can hide things in! So excited about this piece too.

It was a beautiful weekend with great weather, but sadly, winter still is hanging on here. The high will be 76 today but the low tomorrow is 28. Blah!

LOTD #28 and Career Day

Delux Beauty Tintstick in Dot

This is a brown-toned red lip balm and is a product I have loved for years. It feels great on and doesn't run into the lines around my lips. Delux folded at some point, and I found three of these, which usually sold for $14, for just $3 at Ulta. I think I'm on my last one. :-(

Career Day

Yesterday was "Dress Like What You Want To Be When You Grow Up" day in WC's class...... there were doctors, teachers, vets, and yes, WC dressed as a Pop Star.

I hate to be the one to tell her, but no on in our family can carry a tune. Not so sure this is a good career path for her to plan on. :-)

LOTD #27 and the Fraidy Hole

Revlon’s first longwearing lip gloss with a unique mineral complex that provides a glossy seal of conditioning color. Just one application of this cushiony formula keeps lips coated with comfortable color for up to 8 hours, with no need for touch-ups. Available in 12 gorgeous, glossy shades.

Up to 8 hours? Not so much.... this one is going in the trash. I've had it for a while, and putting it on this morning I remembered why I haven't reached for it in a while. It lasts about 30 minutes. And runs into the lines around my lips. And smells a bit funny.

Fraidy Hole

Last night was my first time in our Fraidy Hole. (No, not the official name, just what we call them in Tornado Alley.) I am very claustrophobic, so I had thus far stayed out of it, telling Mr. Sasha I'd be glad to get in there when I heard a tornado siren.

And at 9 pm last night, I heard one. So we woke up the kiddos and grabbed the dog and headed down there. It is super nice that we can keep our cars in the garage and still get in it. Luckily, it was more of a precautionary measure and there was not actually a tornado near us, so the sirens stopped after just a few minutes. That's a good thing because I was about to have trouble breathing down there because I felt some anxiety kicking in. I am so glad we have it, but hope I don't have to get in there anytime soon!

And I've got to mention the terrible things that have been happening in the US this week..... my prayers have been with those in Boston and West, Texas. So many lives lost..... so very sad.

LOTD # 26 and Love Languages

Too Faced Mood Swing in Pink Berry

I just checked and it looks like Too Faced's Mood Swing glosses are no longer available. The original and Smurfette versions have been favorites of mine for a few years, and I've always loved the one I am wearing today too.

They don't run but leave behind a pretty stain once the gloss wears off. I usually have terrible luck with the "changing color" lippies, but Too Faced's glosses work great for me.  I am definitely keeping this one in the stash.

Book Club

The Childrens Ministries department at my church has been doing a Book Club this year and I was so upset that I had to miss this month's meeting! But it's baseball season and this week was crazy.

This month we read The 5 Love Languages of Children and I really got a lot out of it. Our Sunday School class did the original 5 Love Languages study a few years ago (I'm Acts of Service, SURPRISE!) and it was eye-opening in regards to keeping your marriage healthy. But I wondered how the author (Gary Chapman) would translate Love Languages to parenting

Here's what he said in his FAQ:

I like to visualize that inside every child there is an emotional love tank. If the child feels loved by the parents, the child grows up normally. But if the love tank is empty and the child does not feel loved, he/she will grow up with many internal struggles and during the teenage years will go looking for love, often in the wrong places. It is extremely important that parents learn how to love children effectively. Some time ago, I teamed up with psychiatrist Ross Campbell and wrote the book The Five Love Languages of Children. It is written for parents and is designed to help them discover the child’s primary love language. It also discusses how this interfaces with the child’s anger, the child’s learning, and with discipline.

Both of my kids are Quality Time. In fact, WC asked me to go on a bike ride with her the other night, and when I paused to mentally go over what I needed to get done that night, she said "I'd really like us to go on a ride and have some quality time together!" (Where did she get that exact phase????? If she could read, I might think she was sneaking a read in my book!)

But they also have some of the other languages that they respond to, and I think the book will be a great resource for me. Full disclosure: Some of the example stories in the book are a little hokey, but they are great representations of the point the author is trying to make.

Have you read it?

LOTD #25 and Hunger Games Catching Fire!

Avon  U by Ungaro Lip Color in Glam

This lippie was available for a short time in 2009 and I had to have it since I thought the tube was so cute- there's a organza ribbon attached to the base and I don't have anything else like it in my collection. The lippie itself is soft and has great pigmentation- I really like this one.

Catching Fire!!!!!!!

I just ran across this trailer for Catching Fire, which will be out in November. I CANNOT wait!

Mr. Sasha does not get to go with me. He was not nearly appropriately excited enough about the first movie.  I plan on gathering up some local friends who love HG as much as me to go see it with. Did I already say I CANNOT WAIT! I totally want to buy a Gale's Got Game t-shirt to wear.

If you are a fan of Hunger Games and havne't checked out Veronica Roth's Divergent trilogy, I definitely recommend it. Book 3 of the trilogy is due to come out in October and I'm pretty excited about that one too. Who knew YA fiction could be so fabulous?

LOTD #24 and Pretend Easter Sunday

Revlon ColorStay Overtime Sheer in Sheer Pomegranate

Sadly, ColorStay Overtime Sheer is discontinued, although they do still make the original ColorStay Overtime lippies. Luckily, I found a few of these at Big Lots a while back for $2 (!!) each so I snapped them up since this is pretty much my HG lippie. It absolutely lasts all day! Sad that they discontinue the Sheer part of the ColorStay line.

I was so sad I did not get a picture of the kids on Easter Sunday.... the weather was just terrible and they practically had on their winter coats. But this Sunday was so nice, and we had a few minutes before we needed to leave for church, so we shot a few pics. Since I've let my hair go back to my natural color, you can finally see where the kids get their hair color! ha!
